IT HAPPENED

Pō marie koutou,

So I'm now tasked with continuing your programmes from home!

As the government has brought the school holidays forward, I will not be teaching online lessons (via videos and meeting software) until the third week of our lockdown. More information will come about these. We are struggling with adjusting to having everyone at home, as I'm sure you all are! At the moment we are focussing on housework (SO much more mess/dishes/washing when everyone is at home!) and leisure activities to keep us calm. Oh and entertaining the kids. We've been locked down for two days and they are already sick of each other and missing kindy. Gulp!

That being said, I completely understand if you would like to continue with homeschooling/programmes/routine from the get go. I will continue to post updates on the blog as to what each class will be doing. I will be scanning and sending out music to the exam students. If you have run out of stuff to do, feel free to e-mail me for music/direction. I have alse begun recording videos of the trios and pieces that we are playing for you to play along with me. Using a metronome is a really good idea too to use during practice. A reminder that music practice time can be spent writing music digitally (https://musescore.org/en) or practising hand writing notes and symbols; listening to music; playing music games; performing to whānau; making videos/recordings/blogs of whatever you're up to to share with me and others; playing duets with family; and completing theory tasks. I will compile blog posts over the next few weeks with listening links, games and aps to use, theory tasks and worksheets. Please don't feel like you're bothering me if you'd like to e-mail/request stuff too!

I also understand if, like me, you're going through an adjustment period and don't want to overwhelm yourself with continuing music programmes at home. When we all get back, we may have a few weeks of getting everyone together with where they're at with their learning, but that is all good!  Basically I want to support you if you tauira are super motivated to practise lots but also understand if they have no motivation! Normal amounts of practice are to be encouraged, though, so they don't fall behind.

EXAM STUDENTS: I will be sending through grade 2 and 3 pieces ASAP. It would be a GREAT time to nail your scales and the current exam pieces that you have. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions about the syllabus, your pieces or your scales.

Feel free to e-mail me or comment below with how you see online lessons working for you, if they will at all. I am more than happy to make videos too that you can watch at your own leisure/watch lots/pause/slow down if you'd prefer not to be real time. I imagine we may have a lag with so many people online during this time so we may have some experimenting to do over the next few weeks!
