St Orans Semibreves

17th August 2020

Today we...
  • Played Hatikvah slowly, Roses from the South, When the Saints and Oranges and Lemons
Practice Hatikvah. The clip is on youtube! We are 3.5 weeks out from the concert. Keep playing Oranges and Lemons really slowly too to allow yourself to get the fingering. You may turn the page and have a look at A Tisket A Tasket if you like.

10th August 2020

Today we..

  • Played C Ds. Practice slowly changing between these two notes this week.
  • Played Twinkle Twinkle
  • Jumped ahead to Hatikvah
Play Hatikvah super slowly. We have decided that Kaylee will play the top line and Olivia the bottom. Remember we have 4 weeks and a few days before the concert! Don't stress - and practice lots!

3rd August 2020

Today we...

  • Decided that our class piece for the concert at lunchtime at St Orans on the 10th of September will be Hatikvah. There is a video to help you practice on my youtube channel:
This week, play up to Hatikvah in your books!

20th April 2020

Thanks for joining me today on Zoom!

Today we:

  • Played from The Old Shepherd all the way to Clown Dance!
  • Learnt/revised note C.
C is really hard to get a handle on how to hold the flute. Something you could do while you're practising is change from C to each of the other notes we know. Play a mini scale - G to C and then back down again. Play new pieces two bars at a time. Just clap the rhythm if you're finding the rhythm tricky and do the fingerings with the flute on your shoulder if you're getting frustrated at your fingers and they just aren't doing what you want them to!

23rd March 2020

Today we:

  • Played pieces 1-7
  • Learnt new note c!
This week:
  • Play pieces 1-7.
  • Practice mastering your C! #7 is super important for this. Be careful as you balance the flute and that you pop your thumb back in the right place. You may play 8 and 9 too if you get bored!
  • Try and breathe on the barlines - too much breathing will make you dizzy!
  • Say "too" at the start of all your notes.
  • Clap the rhythm to practice the rhythm of a new piece
  • Put the flute on your shoulder to practice the fingering.
  • Play some long notes to see how long you can last!
