St Orans Crotchets

3 August 2020

We learnt "Two Flutes Together" for our concert which will be on the 10th of September at lunchtime. If you promise to practice, I will put a recording on youtube for you to practice along! Practice both lines 1 and 2 please! Also keep practising all the pieces up until #12.

We've also had a chat about practice today, and not having a negative attitude towards our playing! We are learning. And can all play songs! And notes!

4th May 2020

Sorry I keep forgetting to update our page guys! Today we...

  • Played up to piece 9, Andrew Mine, Jasper Mine
  • Had a wee look at piece 10, Rigadoon, incase you get up to it this week!
Remember to play pieces two bars at a time if they are tricky. Write in the occasional note with a pencil if you need it for reference, and make sure to rub it out when you know it really well - so you end up reading the notes! Practice playing from G up to C and back down to G again.  Practice jumping between notes, ie G to B, G to A, G to C etc etc. Play each bar over and over until you know them really well and then put the notes back together! Make sure you are practising up to piece 9, and have a wee look at piece 10 if you are running out of material!

20th April 2020

Thanks for joining me on Zoom!

Today we:

  • Played The Old Shepherd, Spring time, Lazing
  • We learnt new note C! We had a go at CABs.
If you find that your sound is disappearing, stop and put the flute back up to your eyes and down to your chin. It might be that you are sitting down and your head has lowered a bit. Think about where your music is and put it up a bit higher to keep your head from dropping. Play slowly this week, and even play whole pieces with the flute on your shoulder. Really get used to changing between B, A G and C. You could even do a whole practice where you just switch between each of these notes!

23 March 2020

Today we:

  • Played through pieces 1-5
This week:
  • Play through pieces 1-5. Try not to breathe after every note. Make sure you are saying 'too' at the beginning of your notes. Put the flute on your shoulder to just work on the notes. Clap the rhythm before you play it. Try and breathe on the barlines. And above all, be patient with yourself! Play a little bit every day and remember, you are trying to learn a whole lot of stuff at once! So take it easy. If you like, just draw some of the notes and practice reading them for a session and come back to playing at another time.
